Correct the shape and size of your breasts for a more balanced and natural appearance.
What Is A Breast Surgery And What Is It Used For ?
Breast surgery is a surgical procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the breasts by correcting aesthetic or functional problems. It can be carried out through two main options: breast augmentation and breast reduction. There is also breast lift surgery.
Breast augmentation is an option for women who wish to permanently increase the size of their breasts through the placement of a prosthesis. On the other hand, breast reduction removes excess breast tissue and skin to reduce the size of the breasts and improve their shape and position.
Breast Augmentation
This procedure is commonly requested by women who are not satisfied with the size of their breasts, who have lost firmness after pregnancy or significant weight loss, or who have a difference in size between their two breasts.
Breast Reduction
This is an option for women with large breasts who experience problems such as back, neck, or shoulder pain and often have difficulty performing physical activities.
Consultation and Preparation
The first step is the consultation with the plastic surgeon where the patient's eligibility for surgery will be evaluated. Then, the goals to be achieved, the desired shape and size of the breasts, the type of implants to be used (if applicable), and the potential results and risks will be discussed, as well as the necessary preparations, which include the following:Las indicaciones varian segĂșn el concepto medico
Procedure
In general, the surgery is performed under general anesthesia and lasts between two to four hours, depending on the type of mamoplasty being performed.
For breast augmentation, a small incision is made in the breast area to insert a prosthesis behind the pectoral muscle or behind the mammary glands. The incision is closed with sutures and covered with bandages or a special bra. In the case of breast reduction, an incision is made around the areola and down the bottom of the breast, excess tissue is removed, and the position of the nipple is adjusted. After surgery, drainage tubes are placed to remove excess fluid and the area is covered with bandages.
Post-operative and Recovery
It is common to experience pain, swelling, and bruising after surgery, which can be controlled with medication prescribed by the plastic surgeon. In addition, it is recommended to avoid lifting heavy objects and engaging in strenuous activities for several weeks after surgery to allow for proper recovery.
It is important to highlight that, as with any surgical procedure, there are some risks associated with breast surgery, such as bleeding, infection, or anesthesia-related complications, among others. Therefore, it is essential to follow the plastic surgeon's instructions before and after surgery to minimize these risks and achieve the best possible results.
After the surgery, it's important to follow the plastic surgeon's instructions to ensure a good recovery. This may include the use of compression garments, avoiding certain physical activities, and taking pain medication. The recovery time varies depending on the type of mamoplasty, but generally, normal daily activities can be resumed after a few weeks.
