What is a facial filler and what is it used for?
Facial filler is a cosmetic procedure that involves using filler materials to smooth out wrinkles, creases or hollows in the face, improve the appearance of scars, or add volume to the lips, cheeks or chin. Filler materials can be temporary, semi-permanent or permanent, and can be composed of substances such as hyaluronic acid, collagen, calcium hydroxyapatite or polymethylmethacrylate.

Before a facial filler, the patient will meet with the injector to discuss their goals and expectations for the procedure. The injector will also evaluate the patient's skin and determine the best type of filler to use. The patient should inform the injector of any medical conditions or medications they are taking, as well as any allergies they have.
Procedure

The facial filling procedure varies depending on the type of filling material and the area to be treated. Generally, the aesthetic doctor will apply an anesthetic cream or inject a local anesthetic in the area to be treated to minimize pain or discomfort during the procedure.
Afterwards, the filler material will be injected under the skin, using a needle or cannula. The doctor may manipulate the filler material to shape and distribute it evenly in the treated area. The procedure usually lasts from 15 minutes to 1 hour,which depend on the area and the amount of filler material needed.
After the facial filler procedure, patients may experience swelling, redness, or discomfort in the treated area, which usually subsides after a few days. It is recommended to avoid makeup and direct sun exposure for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Patients should avoid strenuous physical activities and lying on the treated area for at least 24 hours to avoid displacing the filler material.
The results of facial fillers are temporary and can last between 6 months and 2 years, depending on the type of filler material used. It is important to follow the instructions of the cosmetic doctor to ensure proper recovery and satisfactory results.
